Adekunle Omole, MBBS – Teaching Anatomy & DPS

Dr. Omole joins us with a diverse medical background including his experience in the Department of Clinical Skills, Patho-physiology and Pharmacology at St. George’s University, Grenada. He has been teaching medical students for several years and has brought those years of experience to the teaching program at our Institution.

Naveen Chandra Raj, Urs, MB, BS, D.M.R.D, F.E.I.S.I. – Dean of Clinical Studies in Saint Lucia

Dr. Urs received his MB, BS from the Rajiv Gandhi Medical University in India. After his post-graduation in Radiology and Imaging he was head of Radiology at the Wockhardt hospital and research center of Bangalore (an associate of Harvard medical school).

Orest Dubynsky, M.D. – Chair of the Department of Pediatrics

Dr. Dubynsky graduated with an M.D. from Loyola College and the University Of Salamanca College Of Medicine. He has been the medical director and chairman of the department of pediatrics at Elkhart General Hospital, assistant professor at numerous medical schools, and is a practicing pediatrician. Dr. Dubynsky is well published in his field and had covered topics such as Digoxin therapy in low birth weight babies and cerebral oxidative metabolism.

Antony J. Mendola, M.D. – Visiting Faculty

Dr. Mendola graduated with an M.D. from the Medical School at UMDNJ- New Jersey Medical School in Newark, NJ, and completed a Residency in Psychiatry at Mt. Sinai Medical Center, New York, along with a Fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, New York. He has been certified through the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology.

Sudhakar Avancha, MBBS – Academic Dean & Instructor of Neuroscience & Pharmacology

Dr. Avancha received a MBBS degree from Mahadevappa Rampure Medical College. He has several years teaching experience as well as experience in emergency room medicine and intensive care. He is affiliated with the Karnataka Medical Council and has written on topics including research activities and quality analysis. Dr. Avancha strives to improve the lives of our students and the community through excellence in learning, discovery, and healing.

George Turner, Ph.D. – Dean of Pre-Medical Studies & Instructor of Biochemistry & Cell Biology

Dr. Turner is a graduate of Duke University, Durham, NC, and Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD. His teaching experience has included positions at Seton Hall University, South Orange, New Jersey; University of Miami School of Medicine, Miami, Florida; the University of California at San Francisco; San Francisco, California; in positions including Biochemistry, Chemistry, Physiology, and Biophysics. Dr. Turner’s teaching and research activities have also spanned the fields of Biotechnology, Biological Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Microbiology, Physiology and Marine Biology.

Harini Sripati, MBBS – Dean of Student Affairs & Instructor of Physiology & Behavioral Science/Medical Ethics

Dr. Sripati received her MBBS from Rangaraya Medical College where she graduated with honors. Dr. Sripati is a member of the Andhra Pradesh Medical Council and has participated in nation-wide conferences on specialties and cardiology.

Waseem A Bashir, MBChB – Associate Professor of Radiology

Dr. Bashir comes to us from his position as a Consultant Musculoskeletal & Trauma Radiologist for the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. There he provided an MSK and trauma imaging service with a team of 3 colleagues in a teaching hospital environment and has made use of his double fellowship training to make available advanced diagnostic and therapeutic/interventional skills for the local as well as wider West Midlands population.

Dr. Carolyn Edmondson, MBBS – Diploma in Family Medicine & Instructor of Biochemistry, Histology, & DPS

Dr. Edmondson graduated from medical school in 2004. Completing an internship in Internal Medicine at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, then went on to practice Emergency Medicine and receive a Diploma in Family Medicine from the Rila Institute of Health Sciences/University of Middlesex in 2014. Her professional teaching experience at Saint George’s University, where she was a teaching and research Fellow, were in the departments of Clinical Skills/Pharmacology and Pathophysiology concurrently and later in the Anatomy/Embryology/Histology & Bioethics Departments.

In 2016, she completed course certificates from the Stanford University and the University of Pennsylvania, in Vital Signs and Introduction to Food and Health, respectively.  After joining the AUSOM faculty, Dr. Edmondson has offered valued insights to not only the clinical skills of developing students, but also study skills and success on licensing examinations.

Donald L. Chatman, M.D. – Chair of the Department of OB/GYN

Dr. Donald Chatman, a graduate of Harvard University and Meharry Medical College, brings decades of experience to the AUSOM staff. An accomplished physician, Dr. Chatman is no stranger to the department having served as chairman of Ob/Gyn for Michael Reese Hospital & Medical Center as well as attending physician of Ob/Gyn at Michael Reese Hospital, Mercy Hospital, and Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Malgorzata Simm, Ph.D. & MS in Microbiology – Dean of Basic Sciences, Professor & Instructor of Immunology & Microbiology

Dr. Simm earned her Master Degree in Microbiology from AM University, Poznan/Poland and Ph.D. Degree in Microbiology from Children’s Memorial Health Institute and AKM Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, Warsaw, Poland. She completed her postdoctoral studies in Virology at Department of Pathology at Columbia University, New York, and following the receiving of NIH and AMFAR grants she had been offered a faculty position with the same Department at CU.

Gaurav Garg, MBBS – Licensed to Practice in St. Lucia & Instructor of Pathology (I & II) and DPS

Dr Garg holds a MBBS degree from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (2006). He is a practicing Physician in St. lucia since 2011.He has extensive experience in teaching basic science courses since 2009. He is an active member of the Indian Medical Council as well as the Saint Lucia Medical & Dental Council.

During his present tenure at the Atlantic University, Dr. Garg teaches Pathology I & II along with DPS, and coordinates electives for students in St. Lucia. He has also initiated a research forum (Atlantic University Research Association) in the University while being involved in various committees’ administrative committees.
